Microsoft unveils Windows 8 (video)
The publisher has made an initial demonstration of its next OS at the conference D9. Windows 8 will receive a new additional interface, particularly suitable for touch devices.
So the rumor was true: Microsoft has benefited from two major events in the small world of technology to unveil the next version of Windows. On the one hand, the conference D9 The Wall Street Journal, the other at Computex in Taiwan, where machinery partners, turning with ARM architecture, were presented. The editor has mentioned the name "Windows 8, but adds that it is currently only a codename.
The new Microsoft OS is distinguished by a completely new interface inspired by Windows 7 Phone, therefore particularly suitable for use touchscreen, which contrasts sharply with that with which users were accustomed for many years. They can rest assured though, the classic interface of Windows with that old taskbar, does not mean abandoned: it will be possible to call when you want. And anyway it will also be permitted to use its keyboard and mouse to navigate the new menus.
With this new interface, users can launch applications directly from a full screen menu, designed from large dynamic thumbnails, similar to those found in Windows Phone 7. These "Live Tiles" will display notifications, the last opened documents, etc.. To move from one application to another, just a sweep of the hand, as shown in the video above.
To take advantage of this new design full-screen, new Windows applications will emerge, designed with Web technologies (HTML 5 / javascript). Microsoft has also revealed it will be possible to hold together the classic applications (Excel, in the example shown) with these new programs on one screen.
This first presentation is far from revealing all the secrets of Windows 8 is expected to include the emergence of a market of applications. Microsoft still has time to refine its next OS, which is not expected before 2012.
