GeForce GTX 570M Available in MSI's GT683DXR and GT780DXR

We've known the GTX 570M was coming for a while now, but MSI is the first to start shipping notebooks with the new GPU. Sitting between the GTX 560M and GTX 580M, the GTX 570M packs 336 CUDA Cores clocked at 1150MHz, with 3GB of  GDDR5 running on a 192-bit bus and clocked at 3GHz (72GB/s of bandwidth). That compares to 192 cores clocked at 1550MHz with 2.5GHz GDDR5 (60GB/s) for the GTX 560M, giving the 570M 20% more bandwidth and 34% more processing power. The big brother GTX 580M on the other hand comes with 384 cores clocked at 1240MHz, with 3GHz GDDR5 on a 256-bit bus (96GB/s), so it has 33% more bandwidth and 23% more processing power.

Like all the 500M GPUs (and the 400M parts before them), the 570M supports NVIDIA's Optimus graphics switching technology, though it's up to the notebook manufacturers to actually use it or not. Unfortunately, it appears MSI has decided to not support Optimus with their G-series updates, so we'll have to wait for a future model to get that feature.

That brings us to MSI's new notebooks. The GT683DXR and GT780DXR update the GT680R and GT780R respectively. We reviewed the GT580R a few months back, and it sits in the middle of a bunch of similarly specced notebooks. The new model upgrades the GPU along with packing in 12GB RAM (2x4GB + 2x2GB), keeps the 2x500GB RAID 0 hard drive setup, and continues to offer a GPU overclocking tool dubbed Turbo Drive Engine (TDE) that boosts GPU clocks 3-5%. Newegg and Amazon already have the GT683DXR in stock, priced at $1600 and $1594 respectively.

The larger GT780DXR sports roughly identical specs, with the chief difference being the larger chassis and 17.3" display. The GT780DXR also includes a third USB 2.0 port and a VGA port, to go along with the two USB 3.0 ports and the HDMI port offered on the GT683DXR. and it has a backlit keyboard with three color zones. We haven't had a chance to look at the GT780 series before, so we can't comment on the display quality, but it can hardly be worse than the panel we tested in the GT680R. Considering it costs an extra $100 for a larger notebook with otherwise identical specs, not to mention the use of a matte LCD, we're hopeful that display quality is substantially better on the GT780DXR. The GT780DRX is also available at Newegg for $1700, or at Amazon for $1700.

Review: Zotac GeForce GTX 570

The Zotac GTX 570 is the daddy in graphics cards terms. At a chunk under £300 it's a card that will more than likely take up most of your upgrade budget, so is it worth that outlay on a single component?

Well, as we've seen before the answer is not that easy. Dropping in the fastest, most expensive GPU is not always the magic pill to deliver instant frame rate bonuses for your favourite games.

But this GF 110-powered graphics card is a quite excellent example of just why the Fermi architecture is so good, especially in this second generation of Nvidia's GPU.

Despite the naming conventions this is not really a direct replacement for the GTX 470 from the previous generation, it's actually got far more in common with the top-card of that line, the GTX 480.

Tweaked GPU

It carries the same number of CUDA cores and texture units and only drops 8 ROPs compared with that gaming behemoth. Thanks to a transistor-level tweak of the Fermi architecture Nvidia was able to drop operating power-draw and heat production, meaning it could open up far more of the full Fermi GPU for the GTX 5xx series.

So as well as being quieter, cooler and less power hungry, this latest line up of Nvidia cards are also significantly quicker. And that's definitely no mean feat of engineering.

Despite the difference in price between the GTX 570 and the AMD HD 6950 there isn't a huge gulf in performance between them when you take the CPU out of the equation. Indeed, as we mentioned before, when it comes to the serious work of DirectX 11 tessellation in Metro 2033, the HD 6950 actually scales much better in terms of resolution compared with the GTX 570.

When we're talking about upgrades though we always have to keep the CPU in the equation and that's where things get really interesting.

On the Intel side the Nvidia architecture seems to favour its processors; scaling much better than competing AMD graphics cards. With AMD graphics cards on an AMD setup there is actually very little difference in the GPU's performance as you swap in faster, more powerful CPUs.

With the Nvidia cards though they rely much more on the CPUs performance for their own speed. The Nvidia-favouring DiRT 2 benchmarks aside, the HD 6950 is just as capable as the more expensive GTX 570 with high-performance AMD CPUs and far better at coping with lower-end processors in general.

So in the end it comes down to your platform choice. If you want the fastest frame rates on an Intel rig then Nvidia cards will generally deliver the performance you expect, and on an AMD setup pairing up its CPUs and GPUs is the way to go. Makes sense really.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M: High-End Mobile Graphics with Optimus

Our collective wishes have been granted by the fine folks at NVIDIA: you can now buy a notebook with high-end graphics that supports Optimus and thus is capable of offering excellent battery life. NVIDIA is refreshing their GeForce GTX 460M with the 560M. This will be a faster GPU, naturally, using the updated GF116 instead of the 460M's older GF106.


The impending ASUS G74Sx will be powered by the GeForce GTX 560M.

Notebooks using the new chip should be available in the near future, though keep in mind that not all notebooks will support all features. Read on for more details.

Nvidia Gaphic Card Geforce 8800GTX Review

If you want the fastest graphic card on the planet then buy the Nvidia graphic card Geforce 8800 series, if you want the fastest gaming system on the plant then buy the two Nvidia Geforce 8800GTX graphic cards and put them together using the SLI.

The Geforce 8000 series has a new chip, 90 nanometre, with over 680 million transistors, it is considered to be the largest graphics chip ever built. The fastest 8000 version is clocked at 575 MHz while the GTX version clocks at 500 MHz.

The Geforce 8800 series graphic cards are the first to use the Direct 10 chip. "It is also the first to support the 'unified' marchitecture." It uses the same "pipeline calculates vertex, pixel and geometry Shader information".

"Nvidia graphic card Geforce 8800 GTX has a core working at 575MHz. GDDR 3 memory works in a rather odd 384-bit mode and it has twelve chips, totally of 768MB of memory. While we all expected 1024 would be the next step, Nvidia decided to go for 768MB due its different memory controller. Nvidia clocked the memory at 1800MHz with a totally bandwidth of respectable 86.4 GB/s and a fill rate of 36.8 billion a second."

The Geforce 8000 series unified parallel Shader is designed to support 128 individual stream processors running at 1.35GHz in terms of speed. The speed numbers came from Nvidia. Because it support direct x 10 it will only work with Window Vista operating systems.

This card is hot, literally it has two power 6 pin connectors means that the card gets 2x75 watts from the cables plus an additional 75 watts from the PCIe bus. This brings total power consumption to an amazing 225 Watts.

The Nvidia graphic card Geforce 8800 GTX "has a dual slot cooler - massive and heavy but it does the job. The card always worked around 55Celsius in 2D mode and a bit higher in 3D."

The test of two cards

The first card tested was the EVGA Geforce 8800 GTX with a brand-new ACS3 Cooler.
"The ACS3 cooler is actually more efficient that Nvidia's reference cooler as the card works at 55C in 2D mode while the Nvidia reference cooler cools the card to 60 Celsius only. This is what makes the difference between EVGA card and the rest of the cards based on the reference cooler design." The box the card come in is super small.

Second card was a Leadtek Geforce 8800 GTX card with the SLI or Scalable Link Interface for linking two graphic cards together. The Leadtek card supports HDCP or High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection and the driver CD also includes Vista drivers.

The driver for both card has a couple of new features, One new featured includes support for 16X Anisotropic filtering. The big news is that Nvidia finally supports FSAA 8X and 16X. Nvidia's Luminex is a marketing name for incredible image quality that includes support for 16X Anti-alasing, 128-bit HDR (High Density Resolution) and support for 2560x1600 resolution with a high frame rate.

The two nvidia graphic cards where test on the 3Dmark03 a "single EVGA G80 card, EVGA eGeforce 8800GTX ACS3 575/1800MHz scores 30485. it is just slightly faster than the 7950 GX2 card, 2500 slower than Crossfire and more than 10000 faster than a single fastest X1950XTX card."

When the EVGA-Leadtek 8800GTX SLI 2x 575/1800MHz combo scores 49390, almost 50K a perfect score for the 3Dmark03. With the SLI it is sixty two percent faster than a single card. A single Geforce 8000 graphic card is fifty four percent faster than an X1950XTX. With the Vertex Shader test the Geforce 8000 graphic card is twice as fast as the ATI's faster card.

List of computer video games used in the test
"Doom 3 scores around 135 FPS at first three resolutions and drop to 125 at the 20x15, SLI even then scores 135 so this is clearly CPU limited. EVGA eGeforce 8800GTX ACS3 575 / 1800 MHz is almost 80 percent faster at 2048x1536. Doom 3 with effects on scores 130 FPS at first two resolutions and later starts to drop but is still faster than 7950 GX2 cards all the time. SLI doesn’t drop at all at first three resolutions only slightly drops at 20x15.

FEAR scores are up to sky with the weakest score of 95 FPS at 20x15, faster than Crossfire in the last two resolutions and from GX2 and X1950XTX at all times. It is up to 66 percent faster than X1950XTX and 68 percent from the Gainward 7950 GX2 card. SLI is again 68 percent faster than Crossfire a massive difference.

Quake 4 runs up to forty seven frames faster on G80 and SLI gets the score better but not much. G80 is always faster than GX2 and Crossfire. Quake 4 with FSAA and Aniso runs some forty percent faster than ATI's fastest card and 30 per cent in Crossfire versus SLI G80.

Far Cry with effects on performance is matched with both G80 and X1950XTX while the SLI can outperform both in 20x15.

Serious Sam 2 is faster on ATI in first two resolutins by three frames while EVGA eGeforce 8800GTX ACS3 575 / 1800 MHz wins by eight, or fifteen frames at higher resolutions. SLI is 23 per cent faster than a single G80 and 43 percent faster than X1950xTX.

Serious Sam 2 with FSAA and Aniso on always scores faster at EVGA eGeforce 8800GTX ACS3 575 / 1800 MHz card but not that much, some nine to ten percent while the SLI is 54 per cent faster than a single card and sixty eight percent than ATI's card."

In Short
The Nvidia Geforce 8000 series graphic cards are amazing beating out the latest ATI card in virtually every test. The card is pricey, expect to pay around $600 or more for one of them. It is a very long card and it does get hot but the card can be consider the fastest graphics card on the market right now, it is also very stable as well.

Stating from the beginning if you want the fastest graphic card on the planet then buy the Nvidia graphic card Geforce 8800 series, if you want the fastest gaming system on the plant then buy the two Nvidia Geforce 8800GTX graphic cards and put them together using the SLI.

Review
The reason I make this review is for those of us who would like DirectX 10 capable graphic while short in budget or refuse to pay for an 8800 series card at its current high prices. I understand that these two card are in different classes and that, is the point. If you are considering making this change from a nVidia 7950 to an 8600 GT simply to have DirectX 10 you may want to reconsider. You WILL sacrifice in overall performance. Also keep in mind that your processor and RAM will drastically effect any video card. Most DirectX 10 games coming out in near future will rely more on dual core processor and 2 Gb of RAM for use in high graphics settings. In my opinion, wait until you can afford what you really want/need. But if you come from ultra low end graphic cards and need significant improvement in graphic performance, 8600 GT is the one of the best solution out there.

This card was incredibly easy to install. I downloaded latest drivers from the XFX website (the disc was an older version of drivers), then uninstall old graphic card drivers in add/remove hardware, shut down, pull the old card, add new card, startup, point manually to new drivers. Total Time=15-20 minutess! This card is VERY quiet... even though I came from a passive (no fan) video setup GF7300, the fan on this is SUPER quiet... I can barely hear it. I even had to verify visually if the fan is really even moving, it really quiet! I try Battlefield 2142 with most settings on High which yield 60-70 fps at 1024x768 and at 40-50 FPS at 1280x1024 (using +szx 1280 +szy 1024).

NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 560: The Top To Bottom Factory Overclock

NVIDIA’s GF104 and GF114 GPUs have been a solid success for the company so far. 10 months after GF104 launched the GTX 460 series, NVIDIA has slowly been supplementing and replacing their former $200 king. In January we saw the launch of the GF114 based GTX 560 Ti, which gave us our first look at what a fully enabled GF1x4 GPU could do. However the GTX 560 Ti was positioned above the GTX 460 series in both performance and price, so it was more an addition to their lineup than a replacement for GTX 460.

With each GF11x GPU effectively being a half-step above its GF10x predecessor, NVIDIA’s replacement strategy has been to split a 400 series card’s original market between two GF11x GPUs. For the GTX 460, on the low-end this was partially split off into the GTX 550 Ti, which came fairly close to the GTX 460 768MB’s performance. The GTX 460 1GB has remained in place however, and today NVIDIA is finally starting to change that with the GeForce GTX 560. Based upon the same GF114 GPU as the GTX 560 Ti, the GTX 560 will be the GTX 460 1GB’s eventual high-end successor and NVIDIA’s new $200 card.

AVADirect's Clevo P170HM with GeForce GTX 485M: High-End You've Been Waiting For

When we reviewed the Clevo W880CU and, by extension, NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 480M, we were perplexed. Certainly NVIDIA had reclaimed the mobile graphics crown and no one could dispute that, but at what cost? The 480M was a cut-down mobile version of the already dire desktop GeForce GTX 465M. We even begged the question: "Wouldn't the prudent thing to do have been to let ATI have their cake for the time being and try and push GF104 into laptops?" Today we have a better answer. AVADirect has been kind enough to send us a Clevo P170HM notebook outfitted with NVIDIA's latest and greatest, the GF104-based GeForce GTX 485M.

NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 560 Ti: Upsetting The $250 Market

Late last year we saw GF110, the first of the revised Fermi family. Utilizing a new low-level transistor design intended to minimize transistor leakage, GF110 brought with it GTX 580 and GTX 570, a pair of powerful if expensive video cards that put NVIDIA back where they traditionally lie on the performance/power curve: very high performance with only moderately high power consumption.

Now with 1 GPU’s revisions under their belts, it’s time for NVIDIA to take to tinkering the next GPU:  GF104. Receiving the same transistor reworking as GF100/GF110 in order to allow NVIDIA to enable all of GF104’s functional units, it has become the aptly named GF114. And it is the heart of NVIDIA’s newest video card: the GeForce GTX 560 Ti. Will the GTX 560 Ti follow in the footsteps of its predecessor and shake up the $200 market? Let’s find out.

NVIDIA GeForce 500M: Refreshing the 400M

Just four months ago, NVIDIA released their top-to-bottom 400M lineup. Since the announcement, it took about a month but we then got the ASUS G73Jw (460M), Dell XPS L501x (420M), Clevo B5130M (425M), and ASUS N53JF (425M) in rapid succession. All of these were decent offerings, with a nice blend of performance and features at reasonable prices. Of course, Core 2010 products are last year’s news, and with the launch of Sandy Bridge the whole industry is moving to 2nd Generation Intel Core Processors (aka Core 2011). With an improved IGP threatening low-end discrete GPUs, what better time for NVIDIA to refresh their mobile parts?

Unlike the desktop GTX 580, the new 500M mobile parts are all using existing architectures; there are even a couple of new 400M parts to round things out. The major change is that we’re getting higher clock speeds, both on the GPU cores/shaders as well as the memory. In a few cases we also have additional shaders available, as well as clearing up some potentially confusing part names (really!).
