Windows 8 beta confirmed for February

Windows 8 beta confirmed for February

Microsoft has announced that a beta version of Windows 8 will be arriving for our delectation in February.

The software giant's next generation operating system is on track for its release in 2012, and the beta release date of February 2012 has now been confirmed.

Although a final Windows 8 UK release date has not yet been announced, we have already been afforded a chance to play with the OS, which you can read all about in our hands on Windows 8 review.

Metro

Windows 8 brings the Metro interface, which features heavily in the Windows Phone 7 operating system, and provides finger-friendly tiles that will make Windows more tenable for tablets.

The current early version has won plaudits for some of its implementation of touch, but remains very much a work in progress, with the transition from Metro to a more traditional desktop still jarring.

That will no doubt be one of the things that the beta version looks to address, along with improvements to the Windows 8 app navigation.

How to Hide Files or Folders in Windows

How to Superhide your file?

Its important to understand the logic before hiding the file

you may have notice that windows (system) contents are hidden like autoexec n all, what they do is just add an Attribute to the file called Superhide, and then it wont be visible to the user unless the attributes are changed, the Superhide Attribute is just like another attributes like Read only, Write, Hidden, Achieve file e.t.c.

Now since the superhide is used to hide the information of microsoft windows they have not made this option available in simple GUI,

How to do it?

you need to open command prompt for this, now decide the folder or file you want to hide, copy the path, Here we take Example of say c:\New folder

here's the command

attrib +a +h +r +s

for our example

attrib +a +h +r +s "c:\New folder"

Since there is space in New folder we have to use "double quotes"

And there you go your file is not visible to anyone now. . . .

How to unhide it?

jst change + into -

Example:-

attrib -a -h -r -s "c:\New folder"

Similarly you can do this for any folder, this trick is just for Microsoft windows

Enjoy!

Microsoft Integrating Hyper-V Into Windows 8 Client

Microsoft is beefing up virtualization support in Windows 8 with Hyper-V, writes Microsoft's Mathew John on the Building Windows 8 blog. Hyper-V was previously available in Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2, but in Windows 8 its functionality is also being rolled into the client version of the operating system.

Hyper-V allows users to run multiple operating systems on the same computer at the same time - if its functionality sounds familiar, it's because programs like VirtualBox, VMWare Workstation, and Parallels (for the Mac users among us) have all been providing similar functionality for years. This isn't Microsoft's first foray into this space, either - among other things, Microsoft's Windows Virtual PC (which enables XP Mode on Windows 7 machines) is also virtualization software.

One of Hyper-V's most appealing features compared to basic consumer-level virtualization software is dynamic memory allocation - a Hyper-V-enabled VM with 2GB of RAM allocated to it will only use the RAM it needs, leaving the unused portion of that 2GB available to the host OS or to other VMs. Microsoft notes that up to four VMs can be hosted on a 64-bit system with 4GB of RAM, though more VMs will require a greater amount of memory.

Use of Hyper-V will require a 64-bit version of Windows 8, 4GB or more of RAM, and a CPU supporting either Intel's VT-x or AMD's AMD-V virtualization technology, and Second Level Address Translation (SLAT). Hosted operating systems can be either 32 or 64-bit, and can make use of up to 32 processors and 512GB of RAM. For complete details on Hyper-V and specifics on its implementation in Windows 8, read the full post on the Building Windows 8 Blog.

Windows 8 Features Vastly Improved Boot Times

Windows 8 news continues to trickle from the Building Windows 8 blog at a steady clip: today, Gabe Aul detailed changes to the Windows 8 boot process that promise to drastically reduce startup times.

The team wanted to come up with a startup method that would deliver the benefits of a cold boot (a "fresh session" at startup, no power usage when off) while reducing the amount of time that it takes to load the operating system from disk to RAM.

To accomplish this, Microsoft has combined aspects of a traditional Windows shutdown with system hibernation, which saves the contents of your RAM to disk and then restores it to RAM at next boot. While a Windows shutdown currently closes all user programs (the "user session") and then all system services and processes (the "kernel session") completely before powering off, Windows 8 closes the user session and saves the rest of your RAM's content to disk. The kernel session can then be restored to RAM quickly at next boot - this is more speedy than traditional hibernation both because there's less data to restore to RAM from the disk (just the kernel session, as opposed to the kernel session and the user session), and because restoring hibernation files is a fully multithreaded process in Windows 8. If the feature works as well as it does in the Microsoft demo video, it is indeed quite impressive.

Microsoft notes that drivers are still initialized during this startup process, which means that driver and system updates should no longer require a "full" reboot of the system (something Microsoft has been promising since the Longhorn days). However, for those of you more comfortable with a traditional "full" shutdown, there are command line options to toggle the new feature on and off ("powercfg /hibernate off" which has the unfortunate side-effect of completely disabling hibernation), and also to initiate one-time full shutdowns ("shutdown /s /full").

According to Microsoft, these improvements should benefit users with SSDs and HDDs alike, and will be especially noticeable when paired with systems supporting UEFI, the BIOS replacement that is slowly being adopted by most major PC manufacturers and motherboard makers. For full details, as always, you can check out the very detailed post on the Building Windows 8 blog.

Microsoft unveils Windows 8 (video)

The publisher has made an initial demonstration of its next OS at the conference D9. Windows 8 will receive a new additional interface, particularly suitable for touch devices.

So the rumor was true: Microsoft has benefited from two major events in the small world of technology to unveil the next version of Windows. On the one hand, the conference D9 The Wall Street Journal, the other at Computex in Taiwan, where machinery partners, turning with ARM architecture, were presented. The editor has mentioned the name "Windows 8, but adds that it is currently only a codename.

The new Microsoft OS is distinguished by a completely new interface inspired by Windows 7 Phone, therefore particularly suitable for use touchscreen, which contrasts sharply with that with which users were accustomed for many years. They can rest assured though, the classic interface of Windows with that old taskbar, does not mean abandoned: it will be possible to call when you want. And anyway it will also be permitted to use its keyboard and mouse to navigate the new menus.

With this new interface, users can launch applications directly from a full screen menu, designed from large dynamic thumbnails, similar to those found in Windows Phone 7. These "Live Tiles" will display notifications, the last opened documents, etc.. To move from one application to another, just a sweep of the hand, as shown in the video above.

To take advantage of this new design full-screen, new Windows applications will emerge, designed with Web technologies (HTML 5 / javascript). Microsoft has also revealed it will be possible to hold together the classic applications (Excel, in the example shown) with these new programs on one screen.

This first presentation is far from revealing all the secrets of Windows 8 is expected to include the emergence of a market of applications. Microsoft still has time to refine its next OS, which is not expected before 2012.

Windows 8 Running on ARM, NVIDIA Kal-El Notebook Demoed

Microsoft just showed Windows 8 running on three different ARM platforms: a single-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon, a dual-core TI OMAP 4430 and a quad-core NVIDIA Kal-El notebook.

The same interface we showed you earlier exists on these systems, and the same applications can run across both systems (assuming the apps have been ported to ARM).

You get a standard Windows 8 desktop as well as the new tiled start screen. USB devices will work and MS even did a demo of copying files off of a USB thumb drive.   NVIDIA had a Kal-El based notebook and tablet on display. Microsoft showed task manager displaying all four threads during H.264 decode acceleration.

Windows 8: IE10, Touchscreen Keyboards and File System Access

Microsoft showed us IE10 on Windows 8, which honestly has a very iOS-like feel to it. You get smooth scrolling and panning, with a PlayBook style support for tabs. It's amazing how much of the Windows 8 UI looks a lot like RIM's first tablet.

The URL bar is hidden by default but it's actually at the bottom of the screen when revealed. Microsoft has a couple of touchscreen keyboard options, a standard mobile OS keyboard and a split version that lets you type with two thumbs while holding a tablet.  Microsoft also showed that you've got full access to the underlying file system regardless of whether you're in standard Windows mode or the new tile based start screen with lighter weight HTML5 apps.

Overall I'm very impressed with what Microsoft has shown thus far. It's a pretty well done mix of a tablet based UI without giving up the traditional Windows interface. {gallery 1122}]]>

HTC Windows Phone 7 12 Megapixel Smartphone Leaked

Windows first smartphone with 12 megapixel by HTC, What appears to be a 12-megapixel HTC smartphone running Windows Phone has been caught in the wild, lending weight to rumors that the company is looking to high-resolution cameras to further differentiate its future handsets. Shared by arch-insider Eldar Murtazin, the unknown phone – which resembles an HTC Trophy – is shown set to take 12MP 4000 x 3000 images in the camera app.

Nokia already released 12 megapixel in the market called Nokia N8.
It also cranks up the pressure on Nokia, which had planned to use its high-quality optics as a differentiating factor between it and other Windows Phone OEMs. There’s more to picture quality than a high-megapixel sensor, of course, but with many consumers buying based more on spec sheets than anything else, HTC’s grab at high resolutions could well help keep it ahead of the pack.

He tweeted that the phone supports RAW format. These are the adjustable settings that it offers:

Photo Resolution
Brightness
Contrast
Anti-Banding
Focus
Exposure Metering Mode
Exposure Compensation
RAW Capture

Complete Specification, Feature , Price and release date yet to be announced.

Preview of Windows OS based tablet coming next week?

We've learned an awful lot about a Windows tablet OS this past five months, with stirrings of a 2012 launch and now the rumor mill has been set in motion with word of an impending preview expected next week. According to Bloomberg, three sources have confirmed Microsoft's plan to flaunt the much-anticipated UI, possibly at upcoming appearances at AllThingsD and Computex. The showcase is supposedly set to run the touchscreen-enabled software on a Tegra-equipped machine. We'd previously reported on stirrings of a June demo. Considering all the evidence that's stacked up over the past few months, we'd say 2012 is looking like a rather practical target.
