Microsoft Integrating Hyper-V Into Windows 8 Client

Microsoft is beefing up virtualization support in Windows 8 with Hyper-V, writes Microsoft's Mathew John on the Building Windows 8 blog. Hyper-V was previously available in Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2, but in Windows 8 its functionality is also being rolled into the client version of the operating system.

Hyper-V allows users to run multiple operating systems on the same computer at the same time - if its functionality sounds familiar, it's because programs like VirtualBox, VMWare Workstation, and Parallels (for the Mac users among us) have all been providing similar functionality for years. This isn't Microsoft's first foray into this space, either - among other things, Microsoft's Windows Virtual PC (which enables XP Mode on Windows 7 machines) is also virtualization software.

One of Hyper-V's most appealing features compared to basic consumer-level virtualization software is dynamic memory allocation - a Hyper-V-enabled VM with 2GB of RAM allocated to it will only use the RAM it needs, leaving the unused portion of that 2GB available to the host OS or to other VMs. Microsoft notes that up to four VMs can be hosted on a 64-bit system with 4GB of RAM, though more VMs will require a greater amount of memory.

Use of Hyper-V will require a 64-bit version of Windows 8, 4GB or more of RAM, and a CPU supporting either Intel's VT-x or AMD's AMD-V virtualization technology, and Second Level Address Translation (SLAT). Hosted operating systems can be either 32 or 64-bit, and can make use of up to 32 processors and 512GB of RAM. For complete details on Hyper-V and specifics on its implementation in Windows 8, read the full post on the Building Windows 8 Blog.

Microsoft unveils Windows 8 (video)

The publisher has made an initial demonstration of its next OS at the conference D9. Windows 8 will receive a new additional interface, particularly suitable for touch devices.

So the rumor was true: Microsoft has benefited from two major events in the small world of technology to unveil the next version of Windows. On the one hand, the conference D9 The Wall Street Journal, the other at Computex in Taiwan, where machinery partners, turning with ARM architecture, were presented. The editor has mentioned the name "Windows 8, but adds that it is currently only a codename.

The new Microsoft OS is distinguished by a completely new interface inspired by Windows 7 Phone, therefore particularly suitable for use touchscreen, which contrasts sharply with that with which users were accustomed for many years. They can rest assured though, the classic interface of Windows with that old taskbar, does not mean abandoned: it will be possible to call when you want. And anyway it will also be permitted to use its keyboard and mouse to navigate the new menus.

With this new interface, users can launch applications directly from a full screen menu, designed from large dynamic thumbnails, similar to those found in Windows Phone 7. These "Live Tiles" will display notifications, the last opened documents, etc.. To move from one application to another, just a sweep of the hand, as shown in the video above.

To take advantage of this new design full-screen, new Windows applications will emerge, designed with Web technologies (HTML 5 / javascript). Microsoft has also revealed it will be possible to hold together the classic applications (Excel, in the example shown) with these new programs on one screen.

This first presentation is far from revealing all the secrets of Windows 8 is expected to include the emergence of a market of applications. Microsoft still has time to refine its next OS, which is not expected before 2012.

Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse reviews and price

Microsoft announced their latest and most advanced mouse.Microsoft arc mouse is latest update of microsoft. The Arc Touch comes in a box significantly sleeker than the original came in. the package contains the mouse with the USB dongle, 2 AAA batteries and user guides. MIA: the nice carrying case that the original Arc came with, something that would have been of use since the shiny surface of the mouse is easily scratched and the rubbery back can attract a lot of dust.

It has a couple of unique innovations that transfer mere peripheral to a brighting accessory. But, at a price of Rs. 3,600, it may be difficult to recommend, as there are other devices in this category that cost less than half.

Pros:Sleek,Bendable,Easy plug and play, Small USB donglel,
Cons:USB dongle can easily be lost,No carrying case,Expensive, price: Rs. 3,600
RATINGS:Performance: 3,Price: 2.5,Ease of setup: 5,Ergonomics: 3.5, Wow Factor: 5,Overall: 4

Microsoft Internet Explorer 10 Preview Released for Download

Microsoft today released the first developer preview of Internet Explorer (IE) 10! IE 10 will build on the HTML5 and accelerated hardware graphics capabilities that Microsoft built into IE 9. It also will include support for additional standards, like CSS3 Gradients on background images and CSS3 Flexible Box Layout, officials said. If this build appears to have come out rather quickly to you, then you are correct. Microsoft is working on a faster browser development pace, so expect to see more updates from Microsoft! You can download the IE10 preview here.

Microsoft IE10

Just four weeks after the release of Internet Explorer 9, Microsoft Corp. unveiled the first platform preview of Internet Explorer 10 at MIX11. In his keynote, Dean Hachamovitch, corporate vice president of Internet Explorer, outlined how the next version of Microsoft’s industry-leading Web browser builds on the performance breakthroughs and the deep native HTML5 support delivered in Internet Explorer 9. With this investment, Microsoft is leading the adoption of HTML5 with a long-term commitment to the standards process. “The only native experience of HTML5 on the Web today is on Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 9,” Hachamovitch said. “With Internet Explorer 9, websites can take advantage of the power of modern hardware and a modern operating system and deliver experiences that were not possible a year ago. Internet Explorer 10 will push the boundaries of what developers can do on the Web even further.”

Microsoft sets mammoth Patch Tuesday, will fix 64 flaws

Microsoft today said it will patch a record 64 vulnerabilities in Windows, Office, Internet Explorer, Windows graphics framework, and other software next week, and tie a December 2010 record for the number of security updates it issues.

The 17 updates -- Microsoft calls them "bulletins" -- tie the count of December 2010. The bulletins that will ship next Tuesday will include 64 patches, Microsoft said, 15 more than the previous record of October 2010, and 24 more than the 40 of the former second-place collection of December 2010.

Of the 17 updates, 9 will be rated "critical," the highest threat label in Microsoft's four-step scoring system, while the remaining 8 will be marked "important," the second-most-dire ranking.

"We were expecting the larger release this month, based on the normal cadence," said Andrew Storms, director of security operations at nCircle Security, referring to Microsoft's habit of issuing a larger number of updates on even-numbered months.

"But a whopping 64 CVEs is out of line with anything normal for Microsoft," Storms observed, talking about the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures labels that identify individual bugs. "All hands on deck will be required next week."

Microsoft said it will close a pair of outstanding issues that have already resulted in security advisories, including a vulnerability in Windows' MHTML (MIME HTML) protocol handler that it acknowledged last January.

The MHTML flaw went public that same month when the Chinese Web site WooYun.org published proof-of-concept code.

Next week's patches will also quash a bug in the Windows Server Message Block (SMB) network and file-sharing protocol that was disclosed in February on the Full Disclosure security mailing list.

Microsoft later downplayed the threat posed by the vulnerability, saying it was unlikely the bug could be exploited to compromise a computer.

Other updates will address one or more vulnerabilities in Office, Internet Explorer (IE), Visual Studio, .Net and GDI+. The latter is Windows' Graphics Device Interface, the graphics rendering component of the operating system.

"As usual, [the IE update] will be on the top of the list for deployment," said Storms.

The monthly advance notification -- where Microsoft alerts customers of the number of overall security patches and updates, as well as what products they will affect -- was several hours late in reaching users.

Microsoft usually issues its advance alert at around 1 p.m. ET, but unspecified problems with the distribution system delayed its release for nearly three hours.

The 17 updates will be released at approximately 1 p.m. ET on April 12.

Microsoft Announces a Host of Windows Phone 7 Updates

At MWC 2011, Microsoft just announced a number of improvements for WP7 including the timeline for when its first update will be pushed to devices.

The update with app-loading performance improvements and copy paste support we demoed back at CES finally got a more specific release date - it's slated to launch in early March. A number of other updates are slated for 2011, though Microsoft wouldn't assign a specific date. Those updates include multitasking support for 3rd party applications, better cloud synchronization, more web-services built into hubs, and a completely new web browser.

Microsoft recognizes that the browser is probably the single most important mobile application. It needs to be speedy, needs to be usable, and needs to have full feature parity with desktop browsers. Though the WP7 browser feels very fast translating and zooming around, JavaScript was slow and HTML5 support was nonexistent. It was based on the older Trident engine used in pre-IE9 browsers, and never felt like it really belonged in the Web 2.0 or HTML5 era. Coming in 2011, WP7 will get a major update with an IE9 browser complete with the same level of GPU acceleration and HTML5 compatibility of its desktop brother. WP7's mobile IE9 browser will use the same core rendering engine as IE9's.

Mobile IE9 includes HTML5 support for the video tag as well. That's the same H.264 support as IE9 has on the desktop.

Next, WP7 will better leverage Microsoft's cloud assets, including SkyDrive support in the office hub. Other hubs are getting updates that include faster cloud sync. One of the major curiosities when WP7 launched was the absence of twitter support. Also part of 2011 will be an update that brings twitter integration in the people hub.

Probably the most major update, however will be inclusion of 3rd party multitasking support. Fast application re-hydration and a task manager menu are the key changes. The new multitasking interface allows for task switching using the back button. Pressing and holding the back button brings up a ring-switcher interface with screenshots of running applications.

Finally, Microsoft demonstrated an impressive example of cross WP7 and Xbox connectivity with a demo of users controlling the placement of obstacles in Kinect Adventures. Microsoft needs to move quickly to deliver WP7 updates into the hands of existing users to keep the platform competitive as Android and iOS also roll out updates.

Tid Bits of Help: Microsoft Publisher for 2010

type="html">Decision Points
Well folks, normally I bring you hints/tips about changes Microsoft has made to Word and Excel (with a couple of PowerPoint thrown in), but not Publisher. Well, that's because the changes have been small and seemingly Publisher was pretty much ignored - the step-child you might think. Not now.

According to my research, the templates and what you can do with them have been updated. There are new capabilities to work with the program for all those publications, sales and marketing materials you love to work with! (Any chance to play, and with bright/shiner toys works for me!) So, for one thing in the 2010 Publisher gets to use the Ribbon along with the new Backstage feature. Publisher wasn't left out this time.

The updated picture tools we found in Word and Excel have finally made it to Publisher (where it should have been all along anyway) allowing for more control of photos. They've included a new object alignment technology, building blocks of content and fine typography options like true small caps and stylistic alternates. All the things we've been wanting to make desktop publishing better.

So having said all of the above, what is new/improved?

* Well one thing, when you're working with an inserted picture and you want to make changes, you can see them before you accept them. A big time saver. (in the "improved" category)
* Add captions for the photos and the ability to choose from a gallery of caption layouts.
* The object alignment technology provides grids to work with - not just the rules on the side and bottom and the hope you have it lined up correctly. (in the "improved" category)
* For print preview you can simultaneously view both sides of a page, multiple pages, page boundaries and more print info to achieve the correct print result the first time. (in the "new" category) Now, to be honest folks I don't see how this is new. As you've always been able to see multiple pages in Print Preview, then have the option to print from the preview mode. But the research states it's a new feature.
* The building blocks of content for items like mastheads and graphics are easier due to the accessibility of the pre-existing themes in fonts and colors. (in the "improved" category)
* Fine typography is much improved. We now have the ability to use ligatures, true small caps, stylistic alternates and alternate numeral forms. Such as fun things with the fonts like reflective and a better look to the shadow. (in the "improved" category)
* When connected to the internet, there are more Publisher templates available on Office Online than before. (in the "improved" category)
* And as you could in Publisher 2007 - you can save a file as a PDF or XPS for easier sharing and printing.

Now remember, this is all research-based and I'm going on what Microsoft has stated. I haven't purchased the 2010 product yet - I have too many clients still using 2002 and the special effects won't convert to the older versions. That is something for you to keep in mind. When feasible, save as a PDF document then no worries with folks opening in older versions.

Hello, I am Liz LaClair, President of Virtually Helps, LLC. I have researched and compiled this information with the idea of helping my friends, potential clients and readers. Knowing that sometimes change is a challenge and not always received well, my goal is to shed some light and guide you through the new set up for Office 2007. I hope you find this to be helpful.

Find Microsoft Powerpoint Training In Houston

type="html">Microsoft PowerPoint is practically indispensable to any individual, business owner or a corporation. It enables you to present your ideas, reports, analysis, etc. in an interesting, yet coherent fashion. It allows you to make your point or pitch your idea in a way that is clear and appealing, giving it a better chance to be accepted by the audience. No wonder then, that being proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint is a must for an individual who needs to communicate his ideas in this highly competitive world. If you are looking for a Microsoft PowerPoint Training in Houston, where do you start?
Facilities

The first thing you need to look for in a Microsoft PowerPoint training center is its facility. Ideally, it should have more than facility, all conveniently located, so as to make them more accessible to their clients allowing you to choose one that is best suited to you. Secondly, it is important to ensure that all the facilities are uniformly up-to-date with their hardware and software. Another very important aspect of a good training center facility is a highly trained and certified training staff that can provide innovative learning solutions as well as 100% hands-on training. If you are a large corporation, the training center should also offer the option of on-site training for a large number of employees.
Flexibility
It is important that the Microsoft PowerPoint training center you choose addresses the needs of working individuals and not other groups, like students. Working individuals as well as business owners have unique needs and requirements. One of the things that define them is time constraints. It is important for a good training center to understand this and provide training programs that will accommodate their hectic working schedules. Flexibility is this area is key to the success of a training program and it is important that you take this factor into consideration when choosing a Microsoft PowerPoint training center.
Affordability
Many computer training centers make it a habit to overcharge their customers because of their lack of knowledge of the training industry. Such service providers are simply out to make a quick buck and are not likely to be committed to delivering on their promises. These should be avoided like plague. Instead, choose a Microsoft PowerPoint training center in Houston that offers middle range training programs as they are most likely to be committed to producing specific measurable results for you or your company.
